Noteworthy Alignments Get On My Wick, Says Author

So, coincidences. It’s no biggie, really, it’s just that I’m being stalked by coincidences.

I usually take a coincidence as a good thing, a sign that the universe is working the way it’s supposed to be, but just in the last few weeks, man, has my life been Noteworthy-alignment-of-two-or-more-events-or-circumstances-without-obvious-causal-connection Central.

It’s not even anything in particular, just an accumulation. the details would bore you (if you really must know, the latest one that made me exclaim in my Facebook status was that the latest issue of Fortean Times arrived through the door, and inside was an article on PRECISELY matched what I was working on - the same thing had happened with the Guardian and the TLS already this week).

One of the first questions they ask when they examine you for epilepsy and related conditions is if you experience deja vu. Hell, yeah. Mister, I’ve had deja vu BOTH times. Well, apparently, paramnesia can be a diagnostic indicator of epilepsy. I mention it because, to me, deja vu and coincidence are very similar things. They feel related. I wonder if coincidence can also be an epilepsy indicator, except I’m not sure if it can be.

I mean, it’s external, isn’t it? It’s not in my head, it’s clearly things out there in the world.

I was going to look it up on the Interweb, but I decided to wait. There’ll be an article about it in the paper tomorrow.

Coincidences you say, how weird!
There I was walking to my local comic shop the other day, having grown a test beard for a couple of weeks (You know why)thinking 'this looks not bad'
I open the door to the emporium of imagination and who do I see standing before me, bloody Grizzly Abnett.
How could you Dan, I have had to shave mine off after admitting defeat.
Now that's a coincidence!

I get deja vu alot.
Some people say there are no coincidences. I don't know what there on about though. (????)

I recently saw a neurologist to pass test to know if I had a form of epilepsy and one of the questions was if I was seeing coincidences often, the question was asked right after asking if I experienced deja vus often, what a coincidence...

I get déjà vu a lot.

Some people say there are no coincidences. I don't know what they're on about though.

I experienced extreme déjà vu today....down to the level where I could have recited what was being said.

It's creepy when it happens, and thankfully it doesn't happen very often but it feels surreal to the level of being hyper-real.

I suspect that's just me and my screwed up brain more than anything.

I would not worry Dan, Coincidence and Deja vu are like apple and oranges.
Coincidence is the cause/effect of outside forces
Deja Vu is all you.

Perhaps something was just changed in the Matrix...

I had a major coincidence a few years ago. I was writing a website for background fluff on the Angels of Vigilance chapter from the Armageddon campaign. Lo and behold in some of the GW materials surrounding the Dark Angels (I believe) some fluff was hinted at that sounded strangely reminiscent of my story.

Hmm....

Glad to see you're getting 'back in the saddle' Mr. A and loved your blogs on Babel Clash.

It's a sign of multiple universes-just like in Fringe.

Ha.
Hope you can sort this out! It's nothing to be handled lightly but nothing to be thrown to the side either. Get well, good sir!

This is interesting. I myself have these episodes where everything appears to be 'mapped out', like some things I can register are going to happen, and then they do.
It really isn't the 'thought' of the 'possibility' they're going to happen. It's that I'm certain of the eventuality of a situation.
Doesn't happen all the time, but makes me feel that bit in the Matrix where neo can actually see all the 0's and 1's...

I'm not entirely sure the whole foresight 'thing' is a myth anymore...are you? afterall, not every inch of our brain is in use all the time, so perhaps these type of things are a result of the brain unlocking itself...

Dan I was wondering if you could tell me if Marvel is going to make a volume 2 of the Nova HC or what?

Curis said...

Beat you to it frieslander. Though you could argue I was just copying the joke you were already going to make.

frieslander said...

Ah, then Curis, me actualy doing the joke must of felt like Deja Vu.
I think I've already said I get Deja Vu alot.
And that some people say that there are no coincidences. I don't know what there on about though.
Or have I?
Hmmm.

I love your Gaunt's Ghost series and the others I have read a bit of but my question is after re-reading Double Eagle last night is their any chance of someday returning to the Phantine XX. I loved how though different than your main Sabbat Campaign series it fit in wonderfully, I wouldn't say no to a book dealing with the Pardus either. You have a knack of making even the minor characters stand out in such a way that I want to read more.

frieslander said...

Yeah, what ever happend to the Pardus, or for that matter the Narmenians from Necropolis. You've given us infantry, you've given us air and you've given us titains. How long before the armour gets a staring roll?

time is circular. its all happened before and it will happen again. i get extreme deja vu too, where i could recite what the person is going to say or know whats coming next...if you could tap into it... hmmm, the possibilities

Dont worry sir! You will be 100% fine! Because, we are praying for your good health! For you and your family! Why - you ask?

Its very simple - we want to see the new gaunt ghost book this october-november. We wannnnt to read Salvation Reach (or whats its titled) more than to watch Ultramarines the movie! So its very simple - sit down and write this new and fantastic book!!!

It happens to me a lot too... my personal theory? We are living in the past. There is an instinctual part of the brain that lives life in the moment, and by the time whatever happed trickles down to the concious part of the brain it has been hours. So in effect we are living a movie, just sitting back and watching. Perhaps jumping into the hot seat when adreniline kcks in, that would explain how everyhting slows down...

It is not without glitches though! Sometimes a trivial detail gets shot through to the awake brian at adreniline-fuelled speed and inserts itself. Then when your mind works it way to that part of your day, coincidence happens.

It's crazy, but I like it.

Better deja vu than confabulation!

What would Malus think about all this?

Love your works! Peace.
