Ready for my close-up

The long-promised second batch of videos got filmed last weekend, thanks to Adelie, and she's been posting the results up on YouTube all week. The first four can be found at the following tiny URLs, and there will be more to come.

All told, I had about nine pages of questions that had come from this blog, Facebook, the BL site, and similar, and I think that I managed to answer just about everything (with varying degrees of accuracy). I'll be inviting more questions again soon, because I hope this will become something of a regular exercise, so get your thinking caps on. In addition, Black Library Television is going to quiz me next week, too, so they'll have a whole bunch of questions of their own. I guess the next film we do should be the promised bedtime reading of the first chapter of 'Triumff'.

And so to Germany, specifically Cologne, where I'm heading tomorrow. This is my first German GamesDay, and I'm really looking forward to it, particularly after I made such a howling kack-storm of attending last year. To be fair, I was bleeding, internally. I look forward to seeing everyone there, on Sunday, and I've got PacMaster's translation all ready.

Finally, I can't vouch for 'Prospero Burns', but 'A Thousand Sons' is bloody good, so far...

No no no no no no no no no no no NOOOOOOOOOOO! Loken can't be alive! He shouldn't be alive! He better bloody not be alive or I'll kill him!

And so pleased my questions were asked and the reason why I asked them, despite the fact that they seemed at random compared to most was based on conversations I've had about Inquisitorial training and placement of recruits within the Ordos. Do they follow their masters and stay in the same Ordo or do they get to choose. Also depending on which of the method of placement is use would reflect the training given. With Eisenhorn being Xenos, it made me wonder about Nathun and Roban. The question about Nathun's belief was just curiosity really.

And I'll be terrified by bothA Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns until I read them and then decide if I love or hate the books then.

Dan,
Thanks for answering my question about Brin and Sabbat. I do hope they BL do another Crusade source book covering the next part of the campain. All i'd ask is a little less photoshoped turn of the century pics of militery commanders and more original artwork just for that publication, maybe an order of battle chart for all the current crusade armys and you could hold a comp here for readers of your blog to don there thinking caps and come up with some new regiment names and a bit of background. Just a thought. Oh and yes Seth (the Blitzspear) kicks ass in Nemesis :)

Dan, Thank you so much for giving us some insight on Eisenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin.
You've answered all my questions and more.
The Adventures of Eisenhorn and Friends,(you can use that if you want :) )has me chomping at the bit.I love all the WH40k books but yours hold special to me.
Your characters and the way they interact is much more beliveable and fluid than some of the others authors.
Thank you again for all your hard work.
If you want to see alot of your literary creations made plastic click on Mr.Ropers face and go the the Heresy Workshop blog.
I'd just about die if I had some feedback on the color I choosed for the Sons of Horus.
Was that how you pictured it?

Dan,
Thanks for the answers to my questions. The Hyrkan Boy sounds like a fantastic title to kick off the trilogy and the thought of you doing another trilogy is great!

Well, just came home from work. Time to watch some interviews.

Xhalax said...

The Adventures of Eisenhorn and Friends sounds like a weekly kids programme.

Great series of videos. While not specifically addressed, all my questions were answered. Look forward to more! Sadly, I will be at a month-long training event at Ft. Irwin, CA when Blood Pact comes out. That makes me sad.

Fantomex said...

Ooh, I must ask a question!
Hmm..
Ok, a classic:
Who would be left alive after this matchup, John Grammaticus or Zygmunt Moloch?

Pack_master said...

Soooo, GD Germany over, waiting for Dan to blog anew and some pics ;)

McKennsy said...

I just watched the videos. If anybody is going to do a Ghosts comic it has to be Clint Langley. The man is a genius.

And what about Double Eagle 2? You have not mentioned that at all. And how about midnight reading from Blood Pact? Iam not the big fan of comics or Triumf!

Mr. Abnett - your ghosts are immortal!!!
In the last book of the Lost sequience you dont kill at least 1 popular ghost? 10 wounded major characters and they all survived? How much luck does the Ghosts has? They kill 5 CSM without loses, they storm the city and again all survived! In the last book every major Ghost is happy lucky bugger!
I really hope that in Blood Pact you kill some ghost characters! Rawne - no, we must see his revenge upon Gaunt! Meryn - no, he is very strong bastard! Domor - no, he is ugly incarnate and survived so many wounds thats something unreal! Beltayn - no, we cant read books without something awry! Dorden - no, he is the Tanith spirit! Daur - no, he is fucking pretty boy and very intelligent officer! Mkoll - he is immortal!!! Kolea - no, he has the real family! Bonin - no, he is under lucky star! Brostin - no, he is in love with fire! Larkin - no, he is the best sharpshooter! Varl - he is the cosmic joy!And many others...
So kill someone please! Or at least com. Hark - he is not from the happy Tanith company!

Anonymous - How do you know you're not a fan of "Triumff"? You can't possibly know that until you've read it.

Xhalax said...

First Anonymous - Think about why there's been no answer to the question about Double Eagel for a moment.

Look at the titles of the videos. Reading and Writing. Eisenhorn, Ravenor and Bequin, The Ghosts, Prospero Burns, Comics.

Double Eagle fits into a grand total of none if these categories. Not even The Ghosts since a grand total of none of them appear in novel itself. Yes there has been a lot of people asking about it, but that's not to say that it hasn't been answered on video. There is nine pages of questions after all. Just as i've seen questions on Titanicus and yet none of them have been answered yet.

Patience is needed with a shade less griping.

And 2nd Anonymous - Couldn't argee more! Always best to give something a chance.

Just posted some more of Dan's video material. There was rather a lot, and it never crossed my mind what order they should appear in. Sorry if you're one of those who's been waiting, but I hope this helps.

See it all here: http://tinyurl.com/p642n7

Xhalax said...

Failing anything else, could the fact no answer has appeared at this time be even more telling?

Personally I didn't care much for Double Eagle but it'd be good for the fans of the novel to find out one way or the other.

There will not only be "Interceptor City" in the future, but it will be a trilogy like everything else. i asked that at GD Germany. On the third time I passed by ;)

Xhalax said...

'Interceptor City'....that sounds vaguely familiar for some reason that I can't quite work out. Maybe the Double Eagle question had been answered before, back in the dark ages of my memory.

Either way....at least there's some news on the matter.

cor said...

Xhalax if they did make a kids tv show called 'eisenhorn and friends' i expect it to be made with puppets :)

Xhalax said...

SOCK PUPPETS!!!!!

Like Potter's Puppet Pals.

OMG! That's AWESOOOOOOOOOME!

HiWayRobry said...

No, not sock puppets but....
marionettes!!! Like the old Thunderbirds TV show (or for those who aren't as old as me the "Team America" movie)
That would so rock!

Xhalax thank you for your opinion! Maybe you right!
First i want to apologise for my grammatic mistakes - i doesnt have the big knowledge of english language, but i could read all black library books without problem at all.

Second i want to tell mr. Abnett that he has the huge fan community of his Gaunt Ghosts series in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv(300 people), Vinnitsa (100 p.), Lviv(50 p.)and Odessa (200 p.). But to read his books - in that we have a very big problem.

For example, if we want to buy 6-8 black library books at price 90-110dollars, we must pay delivery terms. chacking card transit and taxes. And after that we had to pay our ukrainian taxes (20% of the price). In the end - the price of the books is 200-240 dol. and for me, as for example this is solid money, because my months life is standing at the checkpoint of 300 dollars. Its 4 months of work without living to by the books! And the most disturbing - the least books we buy - the more we pay! Charge of 2 books will cost exactly the same as 5, because of our fucking law! Thats why we (10 person) buing 6-8 books for 6 months.

And yeah i really-really want to read Double eagle 2(my brother a pilot - so feth, i love the sky).
And what i said its true - mr. Abnett had not kill a sole major Ghost in the last book! So i really-really hope he kill someone in Blood Pact. I know that many people would be happy if ghosts main characters survived, but Abnett chose the right line - with every book someone must die - its the reality of war, feth its the reality of life and every living thing!
As for another sad thing, i think you are right guys - Abnett doesnt has a CSM or loxatl in Blood Pact, but i wish and hope that they would make a mighty show. So fething sad!

Anonymous- i have some friends in Odessa, it can be a hard place!
What books of Dans havent you got?
Which ones would you like to read?
Give us a list mate ok.

Anonymous said...

Big - thank you, but for the books of Dan Abnett, myself with friends have full collection of his books about warhammer and warhammer 40k, including every background, even short stories.
So by now we are really waiting for Blood Pact. But we have the meeting of minds yesterday, and made the conclusion that "Blood Pact" wiil cost us 75 dollars - (16 eng. pounds - 23 dol.), taxes, delivery and monitoring (its very nessesary, i mind telling that to you - do not trust ukrainian airmail, delivery service or our law enforcers, and thats why we pay another 15 dol. for monitoring)+ 25 dol. of our taxes - fething 75 dollars for the book.
So iam really hope that Blood pact is worth it.

But for another writers we waiting for Dark Creed, Chapters Due, Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns (uappy), Black Tide, Shamanslayer, Grey Seer, Salamander, Imperial armour 7: Siege of Vraks part 3 (for its fluff). So if you can help us in Ukraine to read some of that books - you are welcome.

We have crazy idea - to send a scout on Games Day 2009 24 september - to meet with Abett, and by some fething books. But right now its something awry!

RIIIIICCCCKKKKKKAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY..!

Will Wright said...

@Xhalax In my crazy mind that is what the kids watch in 40k,
that and Burn the Heretic of course :)

Christopher Dwane said...

Thank you for answering my question Dan!

Xhalax said...

BigWill - but Burn the Heretic is a game the children play on the Scholam yard during their lunch break.

Pack_master said...

But don't mix it up with the cardgame "Heretic". As we learned in "gunheads", it's forbidden.

Make it a sunday your in Edinburgh? PLEASE?!

Anonymous said...

Rory - can't rightly remember the exact itinerary, but we're in Glasgow and Edinburgh over the weekend, so definitely somewhere on the Sunday. We'll no doubt blog about it at some point.

Nik

Xhalax said...

Rory - Which question was yours?

Will Wright said...

@Xhalax

That's right, that was in one of the BL books was'nt it.
And here I was thinking I was clever :P

Anonymous said...

Guys - could you tell me, can I preorder Blood Pact at the end of September, or need to wait for November?

Xhalax said...

BigWill - Would it harm my credibility if I said that I have no idea if it was ever mentioned in one of the BL books?

Rob Rath said...

Thanks for answering my question, Dan. That was a really good answer too, never considered that being trained in the "storyboarding" of comics would help a writer structure a fight scene.

...and man do I wish I could've worked for Marvel in the '70s. Knowing New Yorkers, I keep picturing them in the writer's bull pen, acting out fight scenes with chopsticks clenched between their knuckles in lieu of Wolverine claws and a half-demolished wall of Chinese take-out cartons on the table.

Hi Dan,

Cheers for answering my questions on the Ghosts and HH.

With regards to writing the final battle between Horus and the Emperor, would you be more interested in writing from the perspective of Horus or the Emperor. Are you a baddy or a goody? I hope you're a good guy, as I think you'd really nail the epic tragedy (+ you do a great goth Sanguinius)!

Cheers

Tom
