New York, New York

Short notice, I know, but due to a script conflab with Marvel, Andy and I will be in NY this coming weekend, and will be putting in an appearance at both Midtown Comics and Jim Hanley's Universe. Jim Hanley's is likely to be the Monday night at around six, but check their website/newsletter. We'll probably hit Midtown on Saturday, mid-afternoon. There's not enough time to arrange proper signing 'events', but we'll sign up their stock, and if you're in the neighbourhood for a chat etc...

Dan - Hey, this is Chris O. I'm sitting in my firm NYC office. If I get a chance I look you up before I fly home.

Zi... damn it Big, you have to check REALLY OFTEN to get first post, obviously!
Sorry I missed you in London, Dan.
I was compelled to go to the pub and begin a 24 hour drinking session instead, in order to see off a friend moving to Australia.

You're already in the states, just come on down to Memphis!

Xhalax said...

I could have had the first post...but I had nothing to say....so there wasn't any point.

Crap, NY is still a continent away! You should really come to Portland, Oregon. There's plenty to do here like.....uh.....um....er...ah, never mind. Enjoy the Big Apple.

Rob Rath said...

It's probably been 8 years since I've been to NY, if you don't count the time I had to sleep overnight in a JFK International terminal on the way back from London a few years ago.

If you happen by, try a little place called Two Boots Pizza. I became obsessed with that place and a certain dish called the Bayou Beast... the best shrimp and crawfish pizza you'll ever have.

Hiwayrobry-

Now, now - don't knock Portland. Things could be worse...

You could be in Eugene.

Xhalax-

Things could be worse for you too. I file taxes for a living... for corporations. Do that once and you begin to pine for the days of your simple, abysmally small Form W-2 wage statement.

Lucky for some!

xhalax: well, you've just gone and had the 5th post without anything to say instead. now wouldn't it have been better to have just snatched the first one regardless? I hope you've learned something from this distressing experience.

HiWayRobry said...

rob,
At least in Eugene I could go to a football game or check out some cute college girls!

Anonymous said...

Amen.

I've never been to Eugene - or Oregan or even America for that matter, but still and all...

Amen.

Rob Rath said...

Hiway-
Point conceded. I confess I've never been to Portland or Eugene, but I had a friend who went to the Univ. of Oregon give me weekly updates on how Eugene is... well... I think the phrase uttered was "the compost heap where America dumps its overripe hippies."

Ross-
You should visit America, you'll like it. And while you're here, why not spend lots of your strong currency?
Please?

Yeh the whole Rage ,hate and frustration thing with ur Face being torn from ur Skull....

Xhalax said...

Big - I very much doubt that'll happen at GD.

HiWayRobry said...

rob,
Yup, that pretty much sums up Eugene.

ross,
You'd love Portland, it's what I hear London is like weather-wise. Rain, rain, rain; warm rain in the summer, cold rain in the winter. But as much as I bitch about the weather I'd not want to live anywhere else. I'm an hour from the Pacific Ocean, about 45 minutes from Mount Hood and some great camping, skiing, etc. and about 2 hours from the desert. It's really quite something.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like my kind of place - especially the rain (we do have some sun over here mind you, not much but enough to remind us what it looks like every so often).

@ Rob - Ha bloody ha. I'll spend my weak currency and you'll like it!

Xhalax- are u sure u couldnt just pull it off once or twice in front my eldest daughter shes into Beetlejuice at the moment and she would find it hilarious....

Xhalax said...

Big - I would....but it costs....A LOT!

*has returned*

Not that I've been anywhere or anything, I just haven't read the blog for a while. I lost the link and forgot to find it again.

Still - I'm back reading again. Going to Games Day as well to pick up new books, and maybe get some more signed. Though it's an awful lot to carry.

I'm already meeting up with a bunch of online friends there, but if I run into you at GD I'll try and say hi.

Lordy

Oh, and Happy (very) Belated Birthday Xhalax.

Xhalax said...

Lordy - Thanks.

And I'll be around the BL section all day, so there's a chance you might glimpse me. Feel free to say hi, though explanations of who you are and how I know of you will be needed as I'm pretty self absorbed and get somewhat surprised when people talk to me (it comes with being genetically anti-social).

Anonymous said...

And scary!

Pack_master said...

Just saw the Titanicus Wallpaper on BL. Salamanders... Dan, luv' you! Finally they get their hour!

Xhalax said...

Gee, thanks big(!)

Anonymous said...

In all seriousness it would be good to see u at games day
and when Nik tells me who u are i will definately come over and say hello .

Witchy for a Look said...someone called anonymous keeps paraphrasing me :<

Unlike you other lovely bloggers, my reflexes are not fine tuned; that's why i'm way down here - post no. thirty-something. Reminds me of my age.

Anyway, Dan, if you're reading this, good to meet you on Saturday last month at Forbidden Planet and thanks for signing my Ravenor trilogy. Had an all-round excellant weekend. Will start Starting Brothers of the Snake in tommorow.

Just devoured the Titanicus sample on BL; can't wait for the release. Massive titans stomping over waste-scapes. Void shields crackling. Swirls of sensory data haunting the Manifold.

I'm grinning inside.

I'm the very short girl with ridiculously blonde hair.....I suspect that even without the giant green frog, I may be noticable.

I would describe what I'm wearing, however, the griffons are in rather awkward places for someone who is married.

Xhalax said...

Oh and Big....your local GW should have their copies in NOW.

GW Newcastle had them in on Friday when I went in to get a copy of Assualt on Black Reach....and the copy for my shop should be arriving in the next day or so.

HiWayRobry said...

I couldn't help, I just bought Assault on Black Reach. Just arrived today so I haven't opened it yet, but I'm so excited. I'm going to turn the Space Marines into my own chapter "The Obsidian Blades".
I'm so geeked!

Anonymous said...

Join the club dude. I got excited over a pair of kneepads the other week - Kneepads for chrissakes! (but they do go well with my MARPAT, and for those long shoots they really are excellent, and they were just so smooth... and, and shiny...)

Rob Rath said...

I will join the full-frontal nerdity by getting excited about this:

Can anyone say "Tyranids?"

HiWayRobry said...

Great, resurrecting bugs, now I'm scared! :)
And Ross? I'm not even gonna ask why you need kneepads, bud!?!? :)

Hurrah for the Hussar said...

I missed my signing opportunity at the Witney Book Festival, that sucks for me, was it eventful guys? Even worst is that I’m not really a Games Day type, always looks great but never falls on an easy day for me, at least Dan will appreciate that there will be one less pallet-load of books to sign.

Big and Xhalax do you still like to get your books signed? Or do you have favorites that you’ve fought Clone 7 to have signed and now you don’t get them signed any more?

Anonymous said...

Hmm. Resurrecting bugs. Joy. Truth, as they say, is often stranger than fiction...

@ hiwayrobry

Tactical kneepads - For when the discerning professional does not want his soft knees cut to pieces while shooting from a kneeling position on hard/sharp/dodgy ground (ie, masonary, rubble, rocks etc...). They also come in handy when kneeing people in the face.

Hussar-thats me for sure,i get my favourites signed and i get them signed to me personally. When i consider a book a fav it means it meant something u know?like i was there along for the ride! Which reminds me i have to get the Hammers of Ulric signed by u guys!
As a reader i have had everythig my own way so far this year,Legion,Titanicus,Blood Pact and now Space Wolves cant get much better unless Dan does another fantasy book! im luvin it.

my pal just one gold at the paraolympics, and im howling at the moon....

Xhalax said...

Hussar - At GD, I like to have a book for each author to get signed.....and it's always better if the book that's getting signed has been read, but it's not essential (like with Mr. Scanlon last year and Mr. Mitchell this year)....that way questions can be asked and critique given.

But for the most part, I'm working my way through my book collection for the most part....but it's going slowly, one book at a time. But I have a fair few signed already....and more on it's way. And I'll finally FINALLY get Warriors of Ultramar signed, which has taken me forever (if I'm buying people's books at GD, I try not to bring books by the same author with me too).

And the copy of Titanicus I ordered for the shop was put on display today (it arrived yesterday, but I was off so Phil left all the GW stuff in the box for me to sort out , not that I mind, just means I know where everything is).

It was on display for a couple of hours and then bought....not sure by who but I have my fair idea who bought it.....lamentably, since that probably is the case is has done the following:

a. Turned me pretty sour to the book through association and things I'd rather forget, but get rubbed in my face on an almost daily basis (much like Brotherhood of the Snake).

b. Made me wish I would just get over myself since it's not completely my fault....and that I'm being stupid denying myself certain books before of the bad association I draw because of a certain individual.

and c. Wish certain people would sod right off, leave me the hell alone and never ever come back.

But since there's an exceptionally outside chance someone who isn't a total [expletive] bought it, I'll wait for paperback all the same.

Plus I'm developing a cold...which I'm not happy about.

On the up side, my bag for GD is packed....and I'm so glad I went with Captain Jack this time as Kermit would be hard pressed to cope.

GD in three days!

*runs around screaming with delight*

Anonymous said...

so no green frog then?

Xhalax said...

Big - No green frog.

HiWayRobry said...

ross,
I knew what you meant by the MARPAT comment so I was just fething with you, my friend. Just trying to keep you on your toes :)

Xhalax,
I, personally, would go with the Kermit over the Cap'n Jack. Unless, of course, you have a Tanith 1st backpack :) (wouldn't that just be AWESOME?!?)

HiWayRobry said...

Oh, and big?
Congratulations to your friend for taking gold.

Xhalax said...

HiWayRobry - As I said.....all the books I'm taking will not fit inside the Kermit bag.

So what is the point in taking one bag that won't fit everything in and being forced to take a second for the rest?

There is no point, which is why I'm taking a bag that can hold everything.

Simple.

HiWayRobry said...

But Kermit is so much cuter!

HiWayRobry said...

And it was meant more as an aesthetic suggestion as opposed to a practical one. :)

Anonymous said...

Hiwayrobry- cheers mate im still nursing a sore head from the champagne,Tom Aggar is his name and he won Gold for single mens rowing the first British guy to do it.His story is an amazing really!

Xhalax said...

Kermit the Frog vs. Johnny Depp?

No contest in my mind.

HiWayRobry said...

Really? Even with the long, dirty hair and the nasty teeth? Must be a female thing :)

big,
I'll see if I can dig up some info on Mr. Aggar on the 'net and read about it.
