Lancashire in the spring.

Dan will be signing at the GW shop in Preston on Saturday, 29th March at 11.00am. He doesn't often venture quite so far north, so take advantage.

He'd blog himself, but he's getting ready to travel to Preston, while simultaneously writing more Titanicus, and his blog clone is indisposed.

Best to all,

Nik

I wish I had a blog clone. I guess they only issue them when

YOU ARE ALPHARIUS.

I wish I had some clones full stop, that'd make those masters degree papers just fly by!

I'd ask for some clones, but here's the problem:

I'm generally lazy and occasionally prone to procrastination (read: any chance I get.) A clone of me, rather than allowing me to increase my work rate, would instead double the amount of laziness and procrastination. So before I clone myself, I must first improve my general work ethic. I suppose I could engineer such bad traits out of my clone, but then he'd take over my life and I'd be sitting at home going "wait, what happened?"

I think I'll leave the clones to the experts, like Dan.

Dan I was just looking at the Inquisition artbook and noticed it seems to be implyed that Ravenor might be a Half-Eldar.
He does use wraithbone to help his psy and did slum with the Eldar for a spell.
Was this part of his unwritten background you had in mind for him?

Clones can take over my life if they want, they can do all the work and I'll just reap the rewards (the wonders of genetic programming)!

On another note, I read the 'Point of Contact' short by Dan in the Solaris collection today, very good!

@Big - a Zoid in Rogue Trader? Are you sure? There's one in the first supplement, the Warhammer 40,000 Compendium (red book with Ultramarines on the cover) based on a snake-form Zoid that I can't remember the name of (even tho I owned one!)

A Spiderzoid, or even better, a Scorpozoid (known in more recent series as a Guysak) would be good as a starting point for a Stalk-tank model, altho they might turn out to be rather small. The legs are only about 2 inches from the foot to the top joint.

I probably have quite a few assorted components around somewhere, if they haven't been thrown out...

Big–

I haven't been around as much because I work in the tax section of a law firm. The dreaded April 15th approacheth. It's the equivalent of working in retail during the Christmas season.

Dan and Nik–

Out of curiosity, are there any dates for signings in the UK this summer? I may be taking a trip there (probably London-area but possibly Scotland as well) in mid-late August and it would be cool to drop by and meet Dan and the Blogmates.

The trip isn't a sure thing though, I'm going somewhere this summer, but I haven't decided where yet.

Duke u might be right it was in the compendium, and for the life of me i cant remember its name mate ,and its bugging the hell out of me.
the pictures of the stalk tanks dont look overly bulky, they look very nimble and Mantis like. But then again yours were really more practicle!

Rory - 3.30 ,i would love that how i envy u.

Rob-aw man i dont envy u .I worked i GW. over a few christmasses it was murder!

dukelto - are those models still availible? if so where? sounds like a good basis for an s-t.

Big - do you know when blood pact is comming out? I WANT MORE DETAILS!

Just about finished up the Eisenhorn omnibus. You know you like a book when something like a reference to Gregor smiling makes you go "HURR DAN ABNETT MADE AN OOPSIE".

Now if only the swedish postal service would get their asses in gear with those Darkblade books.

Just finished Brothers of the Snake got to say at first I didn't know what to think but about halfway through i fell in love with it and the Iron Snakes are now contending with the Space Wolves as my favourite SM chapter. My favourite character was Autolochus even though he was only in the last part but that’s just because I am a fan of Dreadnoughts and his character and dialogue was awesome

So thanks for another great book and any idea if or when a sequal might be released?

Anonymous said...

Dan,
I just finished "Legion." I was a bit puzzled halfway through, this is the guy that wrote "Eisenhorn," the most subtle manipulation of a reader I've ever come across, but I couldn't see where the story was going. Then I read the last act and my faith was restored.
But now there are more questions! What happened to the Cabal? If the Alpha Legion chose to follow Horus, why didn't that fate play out?
According to an old Chapter Approved article, the Ultramarine primarch killed Alpharius...but which one? They're all Alpharius!
You want your reader to feel this frustration. I understand. Brilliant! I met you at the Chicago Gamesday and you said this would happen with "Legion." Yes, the story makes perfect sense, I should have seen that coming but noe there are more questions than ever.
Will the story you wrote for Gamesday (can't remember if it was the Night Lord or the Imperial Fist story) London be published?

For the Emperor!
I can't log in under my blogger account, odd.

@Big & 7th Son - I don't know if Zoid models are available atm, they have been re-released at least twice since I collected them in the '80s, but not all the designs have been available in each range, it's all very complicated!

The style of the ScorpioZoid would work very well, here's some reference pix but I still think it's a bit too small. I agree the Stalk-tank should be much less bulky than other Chaos walkers, but it should be fairly tall.

Rory said...

Yea, Sleeping in is so Win!!!

hehe, but it does make sense. its also alittle crazy. I think dan should request a Tanith Army =D

and have a HUGE battle at games day.

Win!

When you coming to scotland Dan?

Anonymous said...

Rory- i can catagoricaly state that if any of you want to meet up at Gamesday (see Dan and Nik) come over and have a Characterfull game Tanith vs Blood Pact u r definately on!
And that really goes out there to everyone!
I will arrange it and definately be there (Seventh Son back me up mate)We can have a big ol Apoc game or just a skirmish game if u dont have many models!
sound good?

i'm well up for that big, when is Games Day, oh and can i use the Apoc Datasheet that i have created for the Nine - i better stop chatting and start painting...

the-seventh-son said...

oh and i don't think i shall be using soul grinders to convert stalk tanks - £35 a go, you have got to be bloody kidding!

why are GW products sooo over-priced? anyone?

Rob Rath said...

Dan and Nik–

On second thought it's highly unrealistic to think you'd have signing dates set up four months in advance unless it's something big like a Games Day. (Even then, the US Games Day guests haven't been announced yet, and they take place in June and July.)

So disregard my earlier question. I'll ask again two weeks before I leave (if I indeed go to the UK). I just got excited when the thought of going to a signing occurred to me.

Big-I haven't been around much because I took some time off from work, starting at noon on Thursday, and have tried to stay away from the old computer for a few days. I was told there was something called "the outside world" and I wanted to try it out.

But now it's raining and I'm back inside reading and such again.

Does anyone know anything about the next Gaunt's Ghost's novel?

Anonymous said...

Rob - we do actually try to handle our calendar several months in advance, so that the publicity goes out in good time and the event is worth doing. Three or four months isn't unrealistic and we are trying to get something organised for Scotland late in the summer. Other than that, signings generally coincide with book releases, so always look out for them.

Big - Zoids. It was like a million years ago! I've been married had kids, walked through at least a couple of careers and moved house almost a dozen times, so of course I don't remember anything... except that I had a caterpillar thingy, which I loved! I also loved the way they went together with little plastic bungs instead of glue. Very user friendly! I guess mine were red, although I thought of them as pink. Go figure.

Anonymous said...

Nik-I hear you the little caterpillar thingy ...thats the one we cant remember the name of.It was in the commpendium!

Sugar Honey Ice Tea

Anonymous said...

Big - was it Molga? Caterpillar zoid that is? Or was that a later model?

Anonymous said...

Big - or Slitherzoid?

Dukeleto said...

@Nik - Both! SlitherZoid was the name we knew it by, in the new series it's a Molger! And it WAS in the Compendium... Next to a hovertank made out of a deodorant can!

Re. pink Zoids, actually in Chaotic Century there are a couple of pink Zoids, both belonging to a dodgy bishounen mercenary bounty hunter called Stinger!

Interesting...

Any idea on when it might be released?

Anyone think that no. 12 will be the last?

Im running out of Gaunts books I can reread! I reread every book just before the next one comes out, and I tell ya, nowadays, it takes a while...
